“What The Scallops!” Aki M Rapp Solo Exhibition

In many forms of media such as sculpture, ceramics, and painting I explore the relationship between man and marine life. Although these marine creatures aren’t able to communicate with us I am interested in the sort of bond or relationship created between humans and marine animals beyond the use of words. People keep fish as pets even though they aren’t necessarily animals we can play with, but rather observe. People fish for fun, only to harm and release them back to the water alive or sometimes dead. Seemingly, people treat these animals with cruelty because they can't express pain in words or sounds, and they suffer in silence. But what is this fascination?
